470 talents, 27 trees: the numbers behind Forever's talent overhaul
Only 69 talents from the BlizzCon demo are unchanged from Classic. Here is the full breakdown, and the two structural changes that matter most.
The playable BlizzCon demo gave the community something better than a promise: a countable talent build. Datamining the demo produced 470 talents across 27 trees, and the breakdown shows how little of Classic survives untouched.
The breakdown
| Category | Count |
|---|---|
| New talents | 119 |
| Reworked talents | 263 |
| Relocated, same effect | 19 |
| Unchanged from Classic | 69 |
| Classic talents removed | 81 |
Sixty-nine unchanged talents out of 470 is the headline. This is not a pass over vanilla's trees — it is close to a rebuild that keeps the shape.
14 of the 27 capstones are new, so more than half of all classes have a new 31-point talent to build toward.
Two structural changes
Two things change how trees are built, and they matter more than any single talent.
The 16-point talent
Every tree gains a new one-point talent at 16 points, joining the existing 11/21/31-point gates. Vanilla's trees had a dead stretch between the 11-point and 21-point talents where you spent five points on filler. The 16-point slot gives that stretch a destination, and makes shallow off-spec dips meaningfully deeper.
Buff talents are now baseline
Improved Battle Shout, Divine Spirit, Blessing of Kings and Improved Mark of the Wild are baseline rather than talented.
This is the most consequential change on the list. In vanilla, raid buffs were a tax paid out of your personal build: you speced points into group utility and lost throughput for it, and raid leaders assigned who paid. Making them baseline deletes an entire category of build coercion.
The budget is unchanged
The demo trees retain Classic's 51-point budget at level 60, so the trees are richer without being more generous. Community talent planners rebuilt from the BlizzCon demo are all working from 51 points across three trees.
What this looks like in practice: Protection Warrior
The reworked Protection tree adds damage-oriented talents alongside the defensive and threat talents. In Classic, a Protection Warrior wanting damage had to build into Fury and hybridise. Forever appears to be putting that option inside the Protection tree itself.
The caveat
All of this is datamined from a convention demo build. Demos are snapshots chosen to show well, and numbers move between a show floor and a launch. The September 17 beta is where these trees get their first real test.
