What World of Warcraft: Forever is
Forever is a third, permanent version of WoW that expands vanilla Azeroth sideways instead of upward. The level cap stays at 60 and new content arrives at that cap.
World of Warcraft: Forever is a third full version of World of Warcraft, sitting alongside the modern game and Classic. It launches on 4 November 2026.
Blizzard is explicit that it is "not a mode, a season, or a new version of Classic" but an evergreen version — one intended to keep receiving content indefinitely.
The one decision everything follows from
The level cap stays at 60. Permanently.
Every Classic release so far has eventually rolled forward into the next expansion. That roll-forward resets gear, empties the old world, and turns the 1–60 content people actually returned for into a corridor to rush through.
Forever refuses the roll-forward. New content arrives as more of Azeroth at the same cap, which is why its 1,000 new quests are spread across the entire 1–60 range rather than bolted onto the end.
What is in it at launch
| New quests | 1,000, across levels 1–60 |
| New zones | Mount Hyjal, Zephras Isle, the Riverglades (plus Shen'dralas, reported) |
| New dungeons | 9 |
| New raids | Barrow Deeps (10-player), Hyjal Summit (20-player) |
| New race | The Skyborne, a neutral elven race |
| New battleground | Darkspear Islands |
| Level cap | 60 |
Dalaran also returns as an enterable hub city, and new race and class combinations appear that never existed in vanilla — an Undead Paladin featured in the reveal trailer.
New systems
Three things exist in Forever that have no Classic equivalent:
- Legacy progression — account-wide points earned through play, spent per character in trees.
- Camping — shared campsites that grant buffs and pull professions into outdoor play.
- Realmless play — no realm selection at all. You pick a ruleset instead.
How it looks
Forever ships a substantial rendering update: global illumination, volumetric fog, a new water renderer and real-time terrain shadows. An HD/SD toggle covers both characters and the world separately, so the 2004 presentation remains available at any time.
