Victory Rush and Tactical Mastery go baseline, Protection gains real damage talents, and Fury's Rage ceiling rises by 30. What changed for Warriors in Forever.

Specialisations

Arms

DPS

Two-handed weapon damage with a consolidated Weaponmaster talent and a faster Slam.

Fury

DPS

Dual-wield damage, now with a larger Rage pool and off-hand Whirlwind attacks.

Protection

Tank

Threat and survival, with damage talents that no longer require dipping into Fury.

New and changed abilities

Victory Rush

Baseline

Attack usable after defeating an enemy, healing 10% of maximum health on a 30 second cooldown. No longer a talent.

Tactical Mastery

Baseline

Now a passive that retains 10 Rage when you change stance, freeing the talent points it used to cost.

Thunder Clap

Changed

Usable in Battle or Defensive Stance rather than Battle Stance only.

Shield Block

Changed

Two charges on a 7 second baseline cooldown.

Shield Wall

Changed

60% damage reduction for 12 seconds on a 15 minute cooldown.

Slam

Changed

Rank 3 available by level 38, on a 15 second cooldown.

Talent changes by tree

Arms

  • Spearing Strike deals increased damage to Giants, Dragonkin and mounted enemies, and dismounts players in PvP.
  • Weaponmaster merges the separate weapon specialisation talents into one.
  • Improved Slam reduces both its cast time and its global cooldown.

Fury

  • Boundless Rage raises the maximum Rage pool by 30.
  • Raging Blows enables off-hand attacks during Whirlwind.
  • Bloodthirst grants movement speed.
  • Improved Berserker Rage removes movement impairing effects.
  • Enrage can now trigger from incoming damage.

Protection

  • Shield Specialization grants 5 Rage on a block.
  • Master of Defense grants Rage on dodge and parry.
  • Focused Rage reduces ability costs.
  • Vanguard allows Charge in Defensive Stance.

Warrior's Forever changes are mostly about deleting taxes. Two talents that every Warrior took regardless of spec are now baseline, and the Protection tree stops forcing a detour into Fury to do any damage.

What the baseline changes actually free up

Victory Rush and Tactical Mastery were, in practice, mandatory. Victory Rush is the levelling ability that makes questing sustainable; Tactical Mastery is what makes stance dancing possible without dumping your Rage bar. Paying talent points for both meant every Warrior build started from the same handful of forced picks.

Making them baseline is worth roughly five points of build freedom — which is a tenth of the 51-point budget.

Protection can finally hit things

The reworked Protection tree adds damage-oriented talents alongside the defensive and threat ones. In Classic, a Protection Warrior who wanted damage had to build deep into Fury and accept a hybrid that was worse at both jobs.

Vanguard deserves specific attention: Charge in Defensive Stance removes one of tanking's most awkward moments, the stance dance at pull. Combined with Thunder Clap working outside Battle Stance, the opener stops being a sequence of stance swaps.

Rage economy

Three separate talents now generate Rage from defensive actions — Shield Specialization on block, Master of Defense on dodge and parry — while Focused Rage reduces what you spend. Classic Protection was frequently Rage-starved against single targets. That looks addressed.

Boundless Rage on the Fury side raises the ceiling by 30, which matters most during burst windows where Fury previously capped out and wasted generation.

What to watch on the beta

Shield Block moving to two charges on a 7 second cooldown is a large survivability change, and the kind of number that moves between a demo and a launch. Watch whether it survives.
