Privacy policy
What ForeverTome stores, what it does not, and what leaves your browser. We use Google Analytics, but only if you agree - nothing loads from Google until you do.
This policy describes what happens to information when you visit ForeverTome. It reflects how the site works today; if that changes, this page changes with it, and the date above will move.
The short version
ForeverTome has no user accounts and no advertising. We use Google Analytics to understand which guides get read — but only if you accept it. Decline, and no analytics cookie is set and nothing is loaded from Google at all.
We do not sell data, and we have no interest in identifying you personally.
Cookies and analytics
When you first visit, we ask whether you are happy for us to use Google Analytics 4. Until you answer, and if you answer no, the Google script is never downloaded. This is stricter than the usual approach of loading the script in a "denied" state — we simply do not load it.
If you accept
Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and collects:
- the pages you view and the order you view them in
- how you arrived (search engine, link from another site, or direct)
- your approximate location, derived from your IP address and then discarded
- your device type, browser, operating system and screen size
- rough session information, such as how long you stayed
We have IP anonymisation enabled, and we do not enable Google's advertising features — no ad personalisation, no ad storage, no remarketing.
Google acts as our data processor for this, and processing involves transfer to servers in the United States. Google documents its own handling in its privacy policy and its how Google uses data page. Analytics data is retained for 14 months and then deleted.
If you decline
Nothing happens. No cookie is set, no request is made to Google, and the site behaves identically. We store a single value in your browser recording that you declined, so we stop asking.
Changing your mind
Use the Cookie settings link in the footer of any page. It clears your stored choice and shows the banner again, so withdrawing consent is exactly as easy as giving it.
You can also block analytics independently of us: browser tracking protection, Google's opt-out add-on, or any content blocker will all stop it.
What is stored in your browser regardless
Two values, in local storage rather than cookies:
- Your display preference — whether you chose the light or dark theme.
- Your analytics choice — so we do not ask on every page.
Neither leaves your device, neither is readable by anyone else, and clearing your browser's site data removes both. The site works correctly without them.
What our server records
Like effectively every web server, ours writes a log entry when a page is requested. A typical entry contains the page requested, the date and time, your browser's user-agent string, the referring page if your browser sent one, and an IP address.
These logs exist to keep the site running and to investigate faults and abuse. They are not used to build profiles, are not combined with analytics data, and are not sold or shared for marketing. This happens whether or not you accept analytics, because it is a function of serving the page at all.
Other third parties
Google Fonts — the site loads the Inter typeface from Google's font servers. Your browser contacts Google to fetch it, which means Google receives that request, including your IP address. This is separate from analytics and happens regardless of your consent choice, because the font is part of how the page renders. Google documents it in their Fonts privacy FAQ.
Blizzard image assets are served from our own servers, so no request goes to Blizzard. Where we link out to other sites, their privacy policies apply once you follow the link, not ours.
We do not embed social media widgets, comment systems or advertising networks.
Legal bases
If you are in the UK, EU or another region with data protection legislation:
| What | Basis |
|---|---|
| Google Analytics | Consent — asked for up front, withdrawable at any time |
| Server logs | Legitimate interest in operating and securing the site |
| Display preferences | Strictly necessary for a function you asked for |
Your rights
Where data protection legislation applies, you have rights of access, correction, deletion, restriction and objection.
In practice we hold no account data, and analytics data is aggregated and not tied to a name or email, so there is usually nothing for us to retrieve or delete about you specifically. If you believe we hold information about you and want it removed, contact us and we will look into it.
Children
ForeverTome is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If we add anything that changes this picture — accounts, comments, advertising or a different analytics provider — we will update this page before it goes live, and change the date at the top.
